UNP – divided and ready to rule
The UNP has been completely fractured by the ongoing fight between two factions, that of Sajith and the one Ranil Wickremesinghe controls. The Presidential candidate and the acting Prime-Minister of Sri Lanka find themselves at each other’s throats, fighting for power while desperately trying to keep the appearances that the party is doing just fine. This ongoing feud, however, is not something that has recently came to light, no – it has been a recurring theme within the UNP for several years now, a feud that the Council Chairman Jayasuriya has tried to resolve again and again, with no avail.
The radicalized Premadasa faction, controlled by powerful corporate players, has devised quite an ingenious plan – to keep the UNP divided as much as possible and to create a great deal of noise that would eventually lead to Ranil’s complete expulsion from the party.
It comes with little surprise that these are the men that are trying to sell the idea that they can keep Sri Lanka on track. Two egomaniacs that are desperately trying to put themselves in the spotlight of their own party, whilst destroying everything around them, cannot and will not hold any power in our beloved country. And if they do manage to do the impossible, they will eventually turn Sri Lanka into their own personal battleground – one in which whoever wins, all the other Sri Lankans lose.
