MCC – USA’s “Belt and Road” Initiative
Many people seem to not understand what the MCC deal that the UNP wants to sign is all about, so here’s a quick, unbiased explanation about the organization itself and what it does around the world: the MCC (Millennium Challenge Corporation) is an “independent” U.S. Government foreign aid agency that was created under the Bush administration shortly after 9/11 for the sole purpose of identifying countries that could become eligible for U.S. aid, as long as the countries themselves followed a strict ideological guideline imposed by the United States. These guidelines, which are created by other U.S. influenced organizations that are in close contact with intelligence agencies such as the CIA, touch upon subjects such as the rule of law, civil liberties, political rights, fiscal policies, trade policies, land and rights access and so forth.
Basically, the main purpose of the MCC is not that of helping other countries just because it’s the right thing to do, no – in fact, it’s the main mechanism that the United States uses in order to impose their ideological doctrine in other nations under the guise of “foreign aid”. Sounds familiar? If so, that’s because the MCC is very similar to China’s “Belt and Road” initiative – both mechanisms are used to align neutral countries to the hegemony of either China or the United States. They infringe on the sovereignty of the recipient country by dictating its economic and social policies for the sole purpose of controlling its future. It’s a quid pro quo where, in this case, Sri Lanka gets some cash while the United States effectively controls the political and ideological future our country.
